I'd been hearing the chats overhead at Panboola Wetlands and decided to give them a dedicated shoot before they disappear in the summer. From finding them to edging close enough for shot, they test your patience! ... I got there in the end.
As with most small birds, you need that shutter speed nice and high. It was a bright sunny day and they are out in the open sunshine, so no problems with that one.
Trying to get them on a clean background is difficult and they tend to stay on the ground, but one did pop up into the grasses and that was my chance to get a better quality shot.
This is the stand-out image due to the clean background. I could have removed the long blade of grass at the left, but I prefer not to use the remover tool, unless it's really distracting.

This is the female:

They make a cute little squeaky toy noise and call fairly frequently as they move around.
